More Than a Laptop: The Power of Connection and Compassion

At Power to Connect, we believe digital access is about more than just technology – it’s about opportunity, empowerment, and connection. Across Wandsworth, we’re working to make digital inclusion a reality for everyone, one refurbished laptop at a time.

Recently, we received a message from a refugee supported by Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees after receiving a refurbished laptop through our donation programme. Their words perfectly capture why our work – and your donations – matter so much:

“Receiving the laptop means more than I can truly express. Your generosity has given me not just a computer, but hope, motivation, and the chance to continue building my future.

It’s more than a tool for education – it’s a symbol of compassion, understanding, and human connection.”

This quote reminds us that when you donate laptops in the UK, you’re not just passing on a piece of tech – you’re giving someone the chance to learn, find work, and connect with loved ones. Every laptop we receive is refurbished by our volunteers and distributed through local partners to people who need them most.

Alongside our donation programme, Power to Connect also delivers free digital skills training in the UK through our community sessions at Wandsworth LibraryBattersea Library, and Southfields Library. These digital literacy courses help residents gain confidence with everyday online tasks – from using email and applying for jobs to accessing healthcare and education resources.

Our Digital Champions lead these sessions and are an amazing example of volunteering in Wandsworth at its best. They help local people build basic IT skills while creating a welcoming space to learn, share, and grow.

If you’ve got an unused laptop, tablet, or phone gathering dust, please consider donating it to Power to Connect. Your old tech could give someone the tools to access education, build confidence, and change their future.
